The short version: Aster stores the minimum it needs to run your shelf, shows ads to no one, and sells nothing.
What is stored
If you sign in: your email (for login), your profile name/avatar/bio if you set them, and the subjects, channels and creators you save. Data lives in Supabase (the database provider) and a local cache in your browser. If you subscribe, Stripe holds your payment details and Aster stores only your subscription's status and renewal date — never a card number.
Who else processes your data
Aster is built on other people's infrastructure, and being specific about it matters more than sounding self-sufficient. The full list, with what each one sees: Vercel (hosting and serverless functions), Supabase (database and authentication), Cloudflare R2 (avatar and image storage), Stripe (payments — card details never touch Aster), Google (optional OAuth sign-in and the Fraunces webfont), DeepSeek (the only language model in the product), Groq (Whisper speech-to-text for video transcripts), TikHub (Rednote and WeChat official account public data), twitterapi.io (X post timing where the free path cannot read it), unavatar.io (avatar fallback), Apple's iTunes Search API (keyless podcast lookup), and the jsDelivr and esm.sh CDNs. The documentation keeps the same list with a per-service breakdown.
What is not done
No advertising, no selling or sharing of personal data, no third-party analytics trackers. Metadata about creators (names, avatars, post dates) is fetched server-side from their public pages — those requests carry none of your personal data. One honest caveat: the webfont and CDNs above are loaded by your browser, so those providers see your IP address the way they would on any site that uses them.
Sharing
Shelves are private today — only their owner can read them. When Cosmos ships, a shelf will appear to other users only if you explicitly make it Public.
Deletion
Delete any creator, channel or subject at any time — it's gone from the database. For full account deletion, email sco.boulevard@outlook.com.
